Becoming an auto-entrepreneur in Algeria: conditions, ANAE registration, tax and CASNOS

To become an auto-entrepreneur (self-employed status) in Algeria, you register in the national auto-entrepreneur register kept by the ANAE (National Auto-Entrepreneur Agency), for an activity on the official list, and receive the auto-entrepreneur card. The status, created by Law No. 22-23 of 18 December 2022, is for natural persons whose yearly turnover does not exceed 5,000,000 DA. The tax is 0.5% of turnover, with a minimum of 10,000 DA per year.

The status in brief

An auto-entrepreneur works alone, in their own name, in an activity on a list set by decree. They register in the national auto-entrepreneur register, run by the ANAE, which issues a card. The trade register does not apply to them. No articles of association, no notary, no capital.

The price of this simplicity: the list of activities is closed, turnover is capped at 5,000,000 DA per year, and you are personally liable for the debts of your activity. One exception: the personal and family residence used as the business address cannot be seized for those debts (Law 22-23, art. 8). Liberal professions, regulated activities and crafts are excluded from the status.

What the texts say

Which activities are eligible

The list set in 2023 groups activities into seven fields. It can be updated: always check your activity on the ANAE's official activities platform before registering.

  • Consulting, expertise and training.
  • Digital services and related activities.
  • Home services.
  • Personal services.
  • Leisure and recreation services.
  • Business services.
  • Cultural, communication and audiovisual services.

The steps

  1. 1

    Check eligibility

Make sure you meet the conditions of the law and that your activity is on the ANAE list. Estimate your yearly turnover: it must stay under 5,000,000 DA.

  2. 2

Create your account on the ANAE platform

The application to the national register is made online. Have a valid e-mail address and phone number ready.

  3. 3

Fill in the application and attach the documents

Enter your identity, your address and the chosen activity, then upload the documents the platform asks for.

  4. 4

    Receive the auto-entrepreneur card

Once the application is accepted, the ANAE enters you in the national register and issues the card, which proves your status to clients and public bodies.

  5. 5

    Sort out your tax situation

Within 30 days of receiving the card, file your declaration of existence with the tax office to obtain your NIF, the tax ID (Law 22-23, art. 11).

  6. 6

    Register with CASNOS

Register and choose between the 24,000 DA yearly flat fee and the standard contribution (15% of the base, minimum 43,200 DA per year in 2026).

  7. 7

    File and pay every year

Track your turnover, keep your invoices and file the IFU returns on the dates of the tax calendar.

If you choose the 24,000 DA CASNOS flat fee, the minimum cost of the status is therefore about 34,000 DA per year (10,000 DA of IFU and 24,000 DA of CASNOS). The IFU is calculated on gross turnover, with no deduction of expenses. IFU taxpayers are outside the scope of VAT: you invoice without VAT.

Auto-entrepreneur: 0.5% of turnover, minimum 10,000 DA, 5 million DA ceiling. Indicative estimate, to be confirmed against your actual file.

If you exceed the ceiling

Law No. 22-23 provides for removal from the national register after three consecutive years above the ceiling, or after three years with no turnover declared or a nil turnover; to carry on, the auto-entrepreneur must then register in the trade register (art. 13 and 14). If your activity grows, plan the move to a trade register registration or a company.

Frequently asked questions

What is the auto-entrepreneur turnover ceiling?

5,000,000 DA per year. After three consecutive years above it, Law No. 22-23 provides for removal from the national register: to carry on, you must register in the trade register.

How much tax does an auto-entrepreneur pay?

0.5% of turnover as IFU, with a minimum of 10,000 DA per year. For 3,000,000 DA of turnover, the IFU is 15,000 DA.

How much is CASNOS for an auto-entrepreneur?

Since Executive Decree No. 26-257 (Official Journal No. 53 of 23 July 2026), you can choose a flat fee of 24,000 DA per year. Otherwise, the standard contribution is 15% of the base, with a minimum of 43,200 DA per year in 2026. From the third year of activity, the contribution cannot be lower than the average contribution for your activity in your wilaya.

Do I have to register in the trade register?

No. An auto-entrepreneur registers in the national auto-entrepreneur register, kept by the ANAE, which issues a card.

Which activities are excluded?

Liberal professions, regulated activities and crafts, as well as any activity not on the official list. The 2023 list has seven fields, mostly services.

Does an auto-entrepreneur charge VAT?

No. Like all IFU taxpayers, they are outside the scope of VAT and invoice without it.

Can Neuron apply for me?

You can register with ANAE yourself, for free, with our guides: Neuron does not fill in this application. For full follow-up of your formalities, allow 50,000 DA, or 40,000 DA if you are domiciled at Neuron (official fees excluded).
