Domiciling a startup in Algeria: office, label and first desks

An Algerian startup is first a commercial company (SARL, EURL or SPA): to be registered, it proves a registered office to the CNRC (National Trade Register Centre), and a domiciliation address under a notarised contract is enough for a service or digital activity. The "startup" label comes afterwards, on the official startup.dz platform, and its criteria concern the company itself. At Neuron Cowork in Dely Brahim, domiciliation costs 6,000 DA a month, with offices to rent when the team grows.

To the CNRC, a startup is a company like any other

In Algeria, "startup" is a label granted to a company that already exists. No legal form bears that name. Before any label, you therefore set up a SARL, an EURL or a SPA, with articles stating the office address, then register it in the trade register.

For that registration, the CNRC asks for a title deed or a notarised lease in the company's name. A domiciliation contract signed before a notary is one of the accepted proofs of office. There is no address scheme specific to startups at registration.

The startup label and your address

The label is granted by a national labelling committee, on an application filed on the official startup.dz platform. Its criteria, set by executive decree, concern the company itself: its age, how innovative its project is, its size, who holds its capital and its growth potential. The type of premises is not one of them.

In practice, a domiciled startup can apply for the label as soon as it is registered. The platform will ask for your company documents, including the trade register extract, which shows the office address. Details of the label and its benefits are on the page about setting up a startup.

Why domiciliation suits startups

  • Low fixed costs while the product is being built: 6,000 DA a month at Neuron.
  • A business address for the articles, contracts, invoices and funding applications.
  • No time limit set by law, unlike election of domicile under article 21.
  • A real place to meet partners and investors: Neuron's meeting room costs 5,000 DA a day.
  • The option to move into an office at the same address as the team grows.

What domiciliation does not cover

If your startup makes a physical product, stores equipment or receives the public, a domiciliation address is not enough for those uses. The office can remain an administrative address, but the activity itself needs suitable premises. Send your activity code to Neuron: we confirm free of charge whether domiciliation is possible before anything is signed.

Domiciling your startup, step by step

  1. 1

    Choose the legal form

EURL if you are alone, SARL or SPA with partners. The legal form diagnostic helps you decide.

  2. 2

    Reserve the company name

The CNRC certificate fixes the name that will appear on the domiciliation contract.

  3. 3

    Sign the domiciliation contract

The manager sends Neuron their ID and birth certificate. The notarised contract is ready within 3 days.

  4. 4

    Draft the articles and register

The notary enters the domiciliation address in the articles, then the company is registered with the CNRC.

  5. 5

    Apply for the label

Once the company is registered, file your startup label application on startup.dz.

Frequently asked questions

Can a startup be domiciled?

Yes. A startup is a commercial company: it proves its office to the CNRC with a title deed or a notarised contract in its name, and a notarised domiciliation contract is one of these.

Does the startup label require premises?

Its criteria concern the company itself: age, innovation, size, capital, growth. The type of premises plays no part. Check the current criteria and documents on startup.dz.

Should I domicile before or after the label?

Before. The label is granted to a company that is already registered, and registration requires proof of office.

Can I put the office at my lawyer's or accountant's?

Yes, if your company is starting without an office: article 21 of Law 04-08 allows it for two years at most, renewable once. When activity starts, the office must follow the place where it is carried out.

Can an incubator serve as registered office?

It depends on the incubator and the document it provides. The CNRC asks for a title deed or a notarised contract in the company's name: check this with the incubator before relying on it.

Which contract suits a startup that is just starting?

A 1-year contract covers the set-up and the first year of trading. At Neuron, the price stays 6,000 DA a month whatever the length.
