Registering in the trade register as a natural person in Algeria

To trade in your own name in Algeria, you register in the trade register as a natural person at the local CNRC (National Trade Register Centre) office, with proof of the premises where you work. There are no articles and no capital: you are the business, and your personal assets answer for its debts. As long as your yearly turnover does not exceed 8,000,000 DA, you fall under the IFU (single flat-rate tax): 5% for selling goods and 12% for other activities.

Who must register

Anyone who wants to carry on a commercial activity (buying for resale, production, commercial services, distribution, import) must be registered in the trade register before starting. This obligation comes from Law No. 04-08 of 14 August 2004 on the conditions for carrying on commercial activities.

Registration gives you trader status and a trade register number, which you put on your invoices. Liberal professions (doctor, lawyer, architect, for example) are not in the trade register: they depend on their professional order or body. If your activity is on the ANAE list, the auto-entrepreneur status may be simpler and lower-taxed.

What the texts say

Premises: the most common sticking point

The CNRC asks for proof of the premises where the activity is carried on: title deed, rental contract or other right of occupation. For a shop open to the public, the premises must match the declared activity. For a service activity with no customers on site, ask the CNRC office whether a domiciliation contract is accepted: the answer depends on the activity.

The steps

  1. 1

    Choose the activity code

Find your activity in the CNRC nomenclature and note its code. Check whether it is regulated: if so, find out which approval or licence you need.

  2. 2

    Gather proof of premises

Title deed, rental contract or right of occupation, in the name of the person registering.

  3. 3

    Fill in the registration form

The CNRC form for natural persons covers your identity, address, premises and activity code.

  4. 4

    File with the CNRC

File at the CNRC office with the tax stamp and payment of the registration fees. Some formalities can also be done online on Sidjilcom, the CNRC portal.

  5. 5

    Receive the trade register extract

It shows your trade register number and the registered activity.

  6. 6

    Register with the tax office

Apply for your NIF (tax ID) and file the declaration of existence (G No. 8) at the tax centre for your place of business. Under the IFU, you then file the G No. 12 and G No. 12 bis returns each year.

  7. 7

    Get the NIS

Apply to the ONS (National Statistics Office) for the statistical identification number.

  8. 8

    Register with CASNOS

Register from the start of the activity. The contribution is 15% of the base, with a minimum of 43,200 DA per year in 2026. Register with CNAS as an employer from your first hire.

These amounts show the gap with the auto-entrepreneur status, taxed at 0.5% for activities on its list. The IFU is calculated on turnover, without deducting expenses. IFU taxpayers are outside the scope of VAT.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between registering as a natural person and forming a company?

As a natural person, you are the business: no articles or capital, but your personal assets answer for debts. A company (EURL, SARL) is a separate person that limits your liability to your contribution.

What tax does a sole trader pay?

The IFU as long as yearly turnover does not exceed 8,000,000 DA: 5% for producing and selling goods, 12% for other activities. Above that, the trader moves to the standard or simplified regime.

Are premises mandatory?

The CNRC asks for proof of the premises where you work. For a service activity with no customers on site, ask the office whether a domiciliation contract is accepted.

How much is CASNOS for a trader?

15% of the base, with a minimum equal to the annual SNMG, which is 43,200 DA per year in 2026.

Can I switch to a company later?

Yes. You form an EURL or a SARL, you can contribute your business to it before a notary, then you close your personal trade register entry.

Natural person or auto-entrepreneur?

If your activity is on the ANAE list and your turnover stays under 5,000,000 DA, the auto-entrepreneur is taxed at 0.5% instead of 5% or 12%. Otherwise, trade register registration is required.

Can Neuron fill in my form?

Yes: the registration form and form G no. 8, for 2,000 DA for both, and you file the application yourself. For full follow-up of the registration, allow 50,000 DA, or 40,000 DA if you are domiciled at Neuron (official fees excluded).
